Who Are InterFaith's Patients?
InterFaith Health Center's patients are those who are working without health insurance. Many of our patients are employed by hotels, restaurants and salons where health insurance either isn't offered or isn't affordable proportional to the salary. Some of InterFaith's patients are temporary employees or were recently hired and on a probationary period without health insurance benefits. Our patients are also people who lack supplemental policies covering medication. Without InterFaith, these patients could not afford doctor's visits or necessary medication.
InterFaith has no geographic boundaries. Thus, the Center has patients from all over the East Tennessee region. Eighty-six percent of the Center's patients, however, live and work in Knox County, Tennessee.

How much does it cost to see a doctor at InterFaith?
InterFaith is not a free clinic. Patients are charged according to a sliding fee scale based on the number of people in the household and the total household income. The sliding fee scale ranges from 10% to 50% of the actual cost of care. Ninety-six percent of the InterFaith's patients pay at the lowest level - 10% - of the scale. In other words, a procedure that would normally cost $250 in the private sector would only cost $25 for an InterFaith patient at the 10% level. The average visit costs the clinic $55, while most patients pay $15. The difference is made up with charitable donations to the clinic.
